Liquidmetal Technologies to Develop Club Heads for Cleveland Golf; High Performance Alloy More Than Twice as Strong as Titanium
TAMPA, Fla., Jul 18, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Liquidmetal Technologies (Nasdaq: LQMT), the leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of products made from amorphous alloys, today announced an agreement with Cleveland Golf to develop golf club heads using a Liquidmetal(R) alloy.

"We are delighted to work with an industry leader like Cleveland Golf," said Liquidmetal Technologies president and CEO John Kang. "With strength that is 2-3 times greater than conventional titanium and stainless steel and with less energy absorbed at impact, Liquidmetal alloy delivers maximum performance for golf clubs. We look forward to helping Cleveland Golf create a next-generation golf club for the benefit of all golf enthusiasts."

Commenting on the relationship, Cleveland Golf President Greg Hopkins said, "We are excited about this opportunity to combine our industry leading expertise in golf club technology with a next-generation material like Liquidmetal alloy to bring about an improvement in golf club performance."

Under the agreement, Liquidmetal Technologies and Cleveland Golf will work together to develop and produce Cleveland golf clubs that incorporate Liquidmetal alloy.

The agreement with Cleveland Golf represents one of many applications Liquidmetal Technologies has developed for its alloys. In addition to sporting goods, the company also produces amorphous alloy products for electronic product casings, medical devices, defense applications, and industrial coatings. The company's business of developing, manufacturing, and selling golf club components to golf equipment manufacturers is conducted through its majority owned subsidiary, Liquidmetal Golf.

    About Liquidmetal Technologies
Liquidmetal Technologies (www.liquidmetal.com) is the leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of products made from amorphous alloys. Amorphous alloys are unique materials that are characterized by a random atomic structure, in contrast to the crystalline atomic structure possessed by ordinary metals and alloys. Bulk Liquidmetal(R) alloys are two to three times stronger than commonly used titanium alloys, harder than tool steel, and relatively non-corrosive and wear resistant. Bulk Liquidmetal alloys can also be molded into precision net-shaped parts similar to plastics, resulting in intricate and sophisticated engineered designs. Liquidmetal Technologies is the first company to produce amorphous alloys in commercially viable bulk form, enabling significant improvements in products across a wide array of industries. The combination of a super alloy's performance coupled with unique processing advantages positions Liquidmetal alloys for what the company believes will be The Third Revolution(TM) in material science.
