Liquidmetal Technologies Appoints Glenton Jelbert as VP of Engineering

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2013-- Liquidmetal® Technologies, Inc. (LTI) (OTCQB: LQMT), the leading developer of amorphous alloys and composites, has appointed Glenton Jelbert, Ph.D., to the new position of vice president of engineering.

Dr. Jelbert will apply his more than 15 years of experience in laboratory research, business development and new product introductions toward advancing the commercialization of Liquidmetal alloy through partner collaboration and customer engagement. This will involve overseeing the company’s numerous development projects, including the recently announced next-generation golf clubs based on Liquidmetal alloys. He will also oversee parts production, ensuring the consistency and capabilities of the company’s specialized injection molding machinery, as well as pursue new opportunities that enhance Liquidmetal’s extensive IP portfolio.

“Due to the increasing number of projects and potential applications of Liquidmetal underway, we need the proven leadership of an entrepreneurial professional like Glenton to help us effectively manage the commercialization of our proprietary amorphous alloy,” said Liquidmetal’s president and CEO, Tom Steipp. “We believe Glenton’s rare combination of management consulting, international business acumen, material research know-how, and experience in the prototyping process will help bridge the gap between Liquidmetal conceptualization and successful product development.”

Dr. Jelbert commented: “The groundbreaking Liquidmetal technology provides a clear advantage over existing materials, and presents a vast number of opportunities across a broad range of industries. I’m looking forward to leading the process in which conceptual Liquidmetal applications are transformed into prototype parts, and then finally into full production.”

Prior to joining Liquidmetal, Dr. Jelbert was a principal consultant with Det Norske Veritas (DNV), where he advised companies on the interplay and impact of technology and business decisions. He also worked with McKinsey & Company in South Africa, co-founded and served as director of the UK-based business consultancy, Leviqqio, and worked as a business analyst at Capital One in Johannesburg and strategy consulting for TechnoServe in Tanzania. He was a research fellow in the physics of glassy systems at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and served on the visiting research staff at the Institute of Electronic Structure & Laser in Greece.

Dr. Jelbert earned his doctorate in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England and Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Discrete Finite Mathematics and Pure and Applied Mathematics from the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa.
